The University of Wollongong in Sydney
Introduction
UOW has a strong reputation for student-centred learning, for preparing students
for the challenges of both future study and the workplace, for research performance
and alliances, and for an enterprising international agenda.
The University's nine faculties currently offer over 120 undergraduate courses
and 140 postgraduate degree specializations.
In the research field, UOW is widely recognized as a forerunner in creating
centres of concentration which co-ordinate and thus amplify the strengths of
interdisciplinary and cross-disciplinary research. The current areas of research
concentration are materials and manufacturing, policy and social impact, communications
and information society, and environment and quality of life.
The University is one of the largest sites of information
technology and telecommunications research in the southern hemisphere.
It was the catalyst for the State Government declaring Wollongong a Centre
of Excellence for Information Technology and Telecommunications.
