Macquarie University
Macquarie University began teaching in 1967. As an innovative and vibrant university, it has set numerous benchmarks in higher education and become a world leader in a variety of academic fields. Macquarie is in the top rank for employment of graduates and starting salaries.

The campus is located on a wooded 129-hectare site about 30 minutes drive northwest of Sydney CBD in the heart of attractive suburbs and adjacent to Australia 's biggest high technology park and a huge shopping and recreational centre.

The Certificate IV courses (Foundation Studies) are similar to the foundation years offered by universities in Australia in that they provide important basic preparation for those students seeking to continue their studies at university level. On successful completion of these courses students are guaranteed entry to the Diploma of Business Administration or Diploma of Commerce or Diploma of Computer Science or Diploma of Communication.

The Diploma Courses (Business Administration, Commerce, Computer Science, Communication and Arts) are made up of eight units identical to eight units offered by Macquarie University .

The Diplomas cover the same subjects as the standard first year of the respective Bachelor Degrees.

Advanced Diplomas cover the same subjects as the standard 1.5 years of the respective Bachelor Degrees

Articulation and University Recognition
Students who complete their Diploma program are eligible to transfer to the relevant Bachelor Degree program at many Australian universities. The Diploma entitles students to apply for up to one full year of exemptions towards a Bachelor Degree

Three Semester System and 'Fast Track' Option
A 'fast track' option based on a three semester calendar year is an example of SIBT's innovative educational planning. Intakes occur in February, June and October.

As most courses are of two semester's duration, the three semester system allows students to 'fast track' their studies. See the diagrams above for possible study time lines.

Class Size
Lectures have a maximum of 50 students and these are complemented by small group tutorials/workshops which ensure the students receive the best of attention. Individual access to academic staff for one-on-one consultation is also scheduled. Additional tutorials will be scheduled where necessary for students having difficulty with a subject, at no additional cost to the student

English and Study Support
The SIBT Academic Director will work with students to help overcome any academic difficulties.

Academic English, a non-credit unit is available each semester and students may enrol voluntarily. Enrolment may be required by the Academic Director as a pre-requisite or co-requisite to other units of study for students with English language difficulties.

Students who require a full time intensive English course longer than 10 weeks as a pre-requisite to entry to SIBT may enrol at The National Centre for English Language Teaching and Research (NCELTR) located on Macquarie University campus.

Mixed Program
SIBT has developed a special program for International students who have English language proficiency marginally below that necessary for the full Academic program. This Mixed Program combines 11 weeks of English language study at Macquarie University Language Centre (NCELTR) with a reduced Academic program of two Certificate IV or Diploma subjects. Students who do not achieve the required English level at the end of the Mixed Program may need a greater number of weeks of English study, or two semesters of Mixed Program.

The mixed program is offered to students who achieve these respective IELTS score or equivalent.

Satisfy English Language Entry Program

Candidates in the Mixed Program will normally study 15 hours of English per week, combined with two academic subjects from the Certificate IV or Diploma course. Students in the Mixed Program will usually take three semesters to complete the full Certificate IV or Diploma course, studying the Mixed Program in semester one, followed by completion of the remaining academic subjects in semesters two and three.

Students will have the following conditions for progression to the SIBT Academic Program, depending on their English level at completion of the Mixed Program:

Admission to the full SIBT Academic program with no conditions (IELTS Academic Module or equivalent) or

Admission to the SIBT Academic program (full or reduced load) with a condition to take Academic English or

Continue the Mixed Program for another Semester

It is not necessary to take external tests again (such as IELTS or TOEFL).

Mathematics Assistance
Mathematics assistance is available on an individual basis through the Macquarie University Numeracy Centre. Students with a recognised deficiency in mathematics will be required to successfully complete the Certificate IV subject, Mathematics (BUS104) before progressing to University level Diploma units that require sound mathematics as a pre-requisite. Such students will thus be studying a total of nine subjects for the Diploma and will require three semesters to complete their program.

Course Accreditation at SIBT
All courses are accredited by the NSW Government Department of Education and Training Co-ordination (VETAB). All courses are registered on the Australian Government Commonwealth Register of International Courses for Overseas Students (CRICOS).

As part of the accreditation process, courses are regularly reviewed and revised. Students at SIBT are guaranteed current and relevant courses.

SIBT is a member of ACPET, which is the national body for private vocational and higher education providers in Australia .
