Canning and Tuart College

Canning College and Tuart College provide Australian and international students over the age of 16 the opportunity to study together in a quality educational environment

These two government colleges are recognised internationally for the high standard of support and education provided to students

Since 1982 over 4000 international students have graduated from the Colleges and been accepted into many Australian and international universities

Canning College and Tuart College were established in 1982 by the Western Australian Government to provide pre-university studies for both local and international students. Both are in Perth with Tuart College situated seven kilometres north, and Canning College eight kilometres south, of the city centre

Programs offered by Canning College and Tuart College provide entry to a wide range of university courses. Since 1982 over 4,000 international students have graduated from the Colleges and gained entry to universities throughout Australia and internationally

The Colleges are independent of any particular university. Enrolling in a program at either Canning College or Tuart College therefore provides students with the opportunity to further consider their university options while studying in Australia .

The facilities and range of subjects offered by each College are similar and the standard of results achieved by each over a long period has been consistently high

The decision on which College to attend is left to the student and his/her parents. Some students select a College because they have family living nearby or they have friends at that College

Students and their families are invited to visit each College prior to enrolment to assist in making this decision

Which Foundation Program?
The Standard Foundation Program (late January to late November)
This is the recommended program for most students as it provides the widest subject choice, more time to adapt to studying in Australia , and more time to cover the course.

This course is available at both Colleges.

The April Start Foundation Program (mid April to late November)
This caters for students who are unable to commence in January. Students have 4 - 5 hours per week more time in class than those in the Standard Foundation Program and have a one-week vacation instead of two in July and October. April start students sit for the same end of year examinations as the Standard students.

All subjects except Physical Science are normally available.

Entry requirements to this program are higher than those required for the Standard Program. April Start is available at Canning College .

Fast Track (mid July to early December)
The Fast Track Program is available to students who have completed their secondary education (A levels, SMU3, STPM or equivalents) with above average results. Students have 4 - 5 hours per week more time in class than those in the Standard Foundation Program and have a one-week vacation instead of two in July and October.

Subjects available are:

English Language and Australian Cultural Studies (compulsory), Accounting, Applicable Mathematics, Calculus, Chemistry, Economics and Physics.

Fast Track is available at Tuart College

Tertiary Entrance Examination Program
Although most international students find the Foundation Program to be the ideal pathway to university, some choose to enrol in the Tertiary Entrance Examination (TEE) program.

The TEE program provides a wider choice of subjects and is the program by which local Western Australian students qualify for entrance to tertiary institutions.

The TEE is similar to the Foundation Program, but does not address the special needs of international students.

Students electing to undertake the TEE program will be required to study at least five subjects. All students must study an English subject. The remaining four or five TEE subjects will be selected from the following lists with at least one required from each list.
